OUR CURRICULUM AND PROGRAMS
The core of our program consists of academic, social, emotional and athletic enrichment, specifically through our “3 Hours of Focused Power” sessions. In the 1st hour, we focus on completing academic requirements including school homework and assignments with the help of mentors. The 2nd hour is devoted to addressing and debating current social topics specifically targeted towards our students. The 3rd hour is an option to enrich mentees’ minds through chess, or their athletic pursuits through basketball.
In addition to our sessions, we also aim to enrich the lives of our youth through our “Exposure for Composure” events, in which educational trips are created to expose our youth to venues they traditionally never seen. Studies show that students who are exposed to nontraditional environments are more composed in the classroom. Recent trips have included a trip to Johns Hopkins University to meet Dr. Ben Carson, as well as a trip to see President Barack Obama’s 2nd inaugural speech in Washington, DC. Our most recent trip was to Harlem New York where we visited historical landmarks and parks.
